It’s a pink summer.
The “Barbie” bonanza, and craze over all things pink, continues as Greta Gerwig’s feminist comedy enjoyed a stellar second weekend in theaters, with U.S. box office earnings surpassing the $351 million mark.
Barbie Land, of course, is saturated in pink, from the fuchsia Dreamhouse to the cotton candy-colored Corvette convertible driven by Barbie (Margot Robbie). The peppy color scheme carries through to the beach scenes, where blue waves lap, you guessed it, a vibrant pink-sand beach.
While Barbie Land may exist in a bubblegum pink bubble, there really are pink sand beaches that exist around the world. And the waves? They’re not even plastic! From Bermuda to Greece and the Philippines, here’s where to find pretty pink sand beaches.
Elafonissi beach on Crete, Greece
Beach-goers can wade in knee-deep turquoise waters that wash over the pink-pigmented sand. Crushed shells mixed with white sand give Elafonissi Beach its flamingo-pink hue. The intensity of the pink sand is affected by factors like the tide.

Technically, Pfeiffer Beach along California’s Central Coast is more purple than pink. Thank the manganese garnet from nearby mountains for adding the tint of color to the sand. However, when the sunset is just right, the beach exhibits a pinkish glow.

Tourists can admire Spiaggia Rosa (i.e. Rose Beach), but can’t step foot on those sugary pink sands. The beach has been off limits since the 1990s because too many tourists were bottling up the pinkish sand to take home as souvenirs. The dreamscape of a beach is located on Budelli Island off of Sardinia’s west coast. Teeny-tiny fragments of coral, granite, and crushed shells give it the pink tint.

As if potentially spotting Komodo Dragons on their namesake national park isn’t exciting enough, the volcanic islands are home to Pantai Merah (or Pink Beach). The pink-tinged sand comes from broken down red coral. Bounded by turquoise water and lush green hills, it’s a site to see. Tourism officials say it’s best to visit Komodo National Park with an authorized guide.

Another pink-sand beach on Crete, Balos Lagoon Beach also has soft pink sand and shallow lagoon waters perfect for wading. The beach is reachable by car or boat, but isn’t as easy to access as Elafonissi Beach.

Red organ pipe coral that’s eroded and crumbled is mixed with powdery white sand, giving way to the pink hue on Grande Santa Cruz Island. The island is a short boat ride from Zamboanga City.
Located in the Caribbean, Barbuda is Antigua’s smaller sister island that’s known for its gin-clear waters and 17-mile stretch of pink sand. Beyond the Barbie-like beach, Barbuda is home to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary. The male birds have a fascinating mating ritual: Inflatable red throat pouches that they clack with their bills.
